So Ham
I am enough, I am whole, I am happiness, I am everything that is.
Yoga believes that we are all part of the same energy force, some people call it God, Buddha, Allah, etc... According to ancient texts, there is no separation between us and this primal energy source. The mantra "So Ham" comes from Sanskrit and it literally means "I am". It is a phrase used in meditation that allows you to realize that you already have everything that you are looking for. It is all within you. It helps you realize that you are part of the perfect oneness that is everywhere.
We usually think we'll be happy when we...
find a partner;
have a successful career ;
buy a house;
have children;
buy a car;
travel;
Etc...
All these things will bring you momentary happiness but they will not last forever. Nor the things or the happiness. When you silence your mind in meditation and use the mantra "So Ham" it is a reminder that all that is, is already within you.
Try this: Sit somewhere comfortable, close your eyes, focus on the in-breath and out-breath. As you inhale, mentally repeat the syllable "So" and as you exhale, mentally repeat the syllable "Ham". Sit in silence for a few minutes.
